Binder, or base coat, is a load bearing layer and typically contains 3/4” stone. The top coat or finish coat typically contains 3/8” stone unless specified otherwise.

The finish coat is a smoother layer that is applied over the binder.

When it comes to asphalt paving, ensuring the right thickness is crucial to a long-lasting and durable surface. At CTC Construction Corp, we take pride in giving our customers the asphalt thickness we quote you on.

For residential paving projects, our standard base is 1.5” thick and our top coat is 1.5” thick.

For commercial projects our standard base is 2” thick and our top coat is 2” thick.

This combination strikes a perfect balance between durability, cost-effectiveness, and aesthetics.

After the completion of the project, certain guidelines must be followed to ensure the longevity of the newly paved driveway.

During the first seven to ten days, it is crucial that you refrain from parking any vehicles, equipment, ATVs, etc. on the driveway. It is also recommended to hose the driveway down during this time. The freshly laid asphalt needs time to cure. It can take up to a year for the asphalt to fully cure/harden properly and the weight of vehicles and equipment can cause imprints and unevenness in the surface, especially when temperatures rise above 85 degrees. The intense heat can soften the asphalt, making it susceptible to damage. It’s always better to be cautious and allow ample time for the pavement to fully set.

To prevent imprints and tire marks in your driveway, we recommend parking in different areas of the driveway for the first 6-12 months as well as not turning your wheel on the pavement when the vehicle is not in motion. This helps distribute the weight of vehicles and prevents concentrated pressure on one spot. By rotating the parking spots, you can avoid potential imprints and dents.

At CTC Construction Corp, we understand that water can be a significant factor in causing driveway failure if it is not properly managed.

Water drainage is one of the critical aspects we consider during our pavement projects. We take into account the natural flow of water on the terrain. A properly graded driveway makes sure water flows towards appropriate channels or designated areas.

In cases where there are drainage issues that cannot be corrected with grade only, we may recommend drainage installation.

CTC Construction Corp understands the importance of ensuring that their clients have peace of mind when it comes to risk management. One of the most effective ways to lower the risk involved in hiring independent contractors is to request and obtain a Certificate of Insurance (COI) from them. A COI is a document that confirms the existence of insurance coverage, such as liability and workers’ compensation insurance, held by the contractor.

By requesting a COI, clients are able to verify that the independent contractor has appropriate insurance coverage in place.
